The MANEUVER

THE BUILDING BLOCK OF OUR PROJECT

The Minding Making project aims to collapse the hierarchical division between "minding" and "making" that has emerged through centuries of privileging head over hand in modern culture.

We endeavor to do this by examining the history and contemporary practice of various "maneuvers": basic physical operations of making that cut across the fine, decorative, and industrial arts. These maneuvers allow us to connect different types of labor and sites of production, revealing forms of material intelligence that span cultural, economic, and historical contexts.
